Nov 8, 2015- Two fringe parties – CPN-Maoist and CPN (Unified) – announced merger at an unification convention that took place at the Maoist Valley Bureau Office at Kupandol in the Capital city on Sunday The parties have agreed provisionally on naming the newly forged party as CPN (Maoist Revolutionary) which will be finalised during a National Conference. Addressing the convention, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya said the unification between the two parties took place in order to conclude the Nepali people’s democratic revolution and the remaining workload of the revolution. Baidya added that the unification was not only necessary with CPN (Unified), but with all Maoist parties spread across the country.
He further said his party was making efforts for the same. The CPN-Maoist Chair said the revolutionary communist agitation in Nepal had suffered a setback and expressed belief it will gain its former height again. The Indian government’s undeclared blockade has proven the necessity for a nationalist agitation in Nepal, Baidya said adding all Nepalis must now unite to face the Indian intervention. He accused the Madhes-centric parties leading the agitation in Madhes for being pro-Indian while terming the demands raised by Madhesi people as ‘right’.
On the occasion, CPN (Unified) General Secretary Pari Thapa said the two parties united to face the challenges emerging before the country and to complete the duty of revolution. The two parties had been making efforts for merger since three years back which materialized now, Thapa said. The two parties are set to dissolve their central committees and form a conference organizing committee to fix the date for National Conference and General Convention.
